Both Sides of the Tongue is equally about transliteration and the politics and performativity of languages. The green letters show specific Arab guttural sounds that are characteristic for the arabic speaking world, equivalent to the German ß for example. Slavs and Tatars painted the letter on the cover of ”S / Z" a book by Roland Barthes, which deals with certain elements in languages that have often been privileged over others.
